The Challenge

Cheshire LMC were looking to host a flagship event in Autumn 2019 to focus on PCN development, how to lead change, improve patient care and work at an ICS level.

The main aim of the seminar was for PCN representatives to hear from national and local figures including those from CCG’s, NHS England, STP’s, LPC and the 3rd sector, looking at what was happening at system levels and what skills they needed to be able to have valuable input at this level.

The audience:

  • Clinical Directors
  • Business Managers
  • CCG, NHSE and Local Authority employees.

The Action

We met with Cheshire LMC to confirm the aim and logistics of the event.

Once confirmed, we designed an agenda with the relevant guest speakers using our unique ‘one stop shop’ approach and expert consortium members.

Cheshire LMC wanted an informal and relaxed feel to the day, rather than having each guest speaker talking through their presentation so we held ‘On the Couch’ sessions where the speakers including Dr Nigel Watson were asked pertinent questions by the Chair, Dr Jonathan Griffiths and members of the audience.

This approach allowed for free-flowing discussion and points to be raised and discussed immediately.

In the afternoon, we hosted ‘Toolbox Talks’ on some of the mechanics of what PCN’s required to lead change, improve patient care and work at an ICS level. This included talks on relationship and change management, the importance of communicating change and utilising reimbursable roles such a Clinical Pharmacists and how to recruit and retain them within you PCN.

Alongside this, we held 1-2-1 drop in surgeries for those wishing to discuss legal, finance and workforce PCN issues.

The Results

Over 100 delegates attended the full-day flagship event with 98% indicating that the event was either excellent or good. On the day feedback praised the ‘On the Couch’ sessions and the wide selection of speakers highlighting the breadth of speakers PCD can bring to any event, seminar or webinar.
