A pioneering project to recruit business figures and professional as coaches for young people from the global majority community is preparing to expand nationwide with input from Agencia.
The Talent One Hundred, which is being led by the social enterprise RedEverywhere through its partnership with the University Campus North Lincolnshire (UNCL), is due to be launched formally in September.
The initiative gained momentum as a result of the “Beyond Covid” Zoom summit organised by Agencia in November 2020 and inspired by a call from campaigner and businesswoman Gina Miller to drive dynamic change.
The summit in turn led to the formation of an alliance of specialists who bring shared success in tackling social and economic problems including knife crime and drug addiction.
Marcus Isman-Egal and Robin Lockhart, both members of the Agencia Advisory Board, are now working to extend the influence of the group nationally through Talent One Hundred.
Marcus, senior partner at RedEverywhere, is one of six people who have undergone training as coaches to kickstart the Talent One Hundred. A further 55 potential coaches from the global majority community have already been identified and the aim is to recruit 100 over the next 12 months.
Robin, Director and co-founder of London-based Catalyst in Communities, is helping to develop a national perspective.
Marcus said: “Six of us have just finished our coaching training which has been going for 10 weeks. It’s been abs incredible and we have have been on a fabulous journey. We are the first six and we will soon unveil our plans to build that into the Talent One Hundred. The momentum and the appetite are really good!
“The launch will take place at UCNL and we will bring together talented students and professionals from the global majority community to learn more about the campaign and get involved regionally and nationally. We also hope to invite guests and partners and also work with schools to support the Global Majority community in North Lincolnshire.
“We will bring in people who understand the reasons why we are doing this – we want to support a group of people who are experiencing the same challenges, what’s happening with Covid and with racism.
“It’s connected to the work we have been doing with Agencia. We have been talking about doing some work in North Lincolnshire and we have also had conversations with the head of a school in Sheffield about doing something similar. We want to take this model to other areas of Yorkshire and Humber and nationwide.”
Helen Gibson, Managing Director of Agencia, said: “The summit was all about bouncing back from the Covid crisis by building wider, more responsive networks to deal with new challenges and with existing issues which had become a greater threat, particularly as far as young people are concerned.
“The formation of an alliance of experts was a significant step forward and it is very encouraging to see that partnership now influencing the establishment of Talent One Hundred. With the first cohort of the first programme of training coaches now complete and rising enthusiasm among other potential coaches from the global community we are looking forward very much to the launch and future development of the new initiative.”
