FULLY FUNDED Training Programme: Addiction to Prescribed Medication

FULLY FUNDED Training Programme: Addiction to Prescribed Medication

PHE reports indicate that 1 in 4 people are currently prescribed potentially addictive medication.  A limited number of places are available on this fully funded training programme for GP Practices, courtesy of an Education and Development Grant from Camurus.  Designed specifically for GPs, PMs, Nurses and associated Health Professionals, the programme will be fully interactive, drawing on real-life case studies to achieve outcomes and results.  With a focus on how behaviours can be changed, for the benefit of both patients and health professionals, this course is also brilliantly myth-busting.

This two hour course has received excellent feedback from previous attendees and covers:

  • Using the Prescribed Opioid Misuse Indicator (POMI) as a tool to support early identification of those whose opioid use may be problematic.
  • The Legal Framework, detailing risks associated with inappropriate prescribing of painkiller (delivered in partnership with Capsticks Solicitors LLP).
  • A framework for conversations to support behavioural change.
  • Resources to support individuals concerned about their use of painkillers.
  • Best practice, nationally and internationally.

Delivered by Graeme Dixon, Director of Service and Innovation at Agencia, Graeme and his team have experience of creating and running the award winning ReWire service.  ReWire was specifically designed to identify patients at risk of developing addiction to prescribed and over-the-counter painkillers, and was first piloted in North Lincolnshire.
