Experts from Agencia are working with Violence Reduction Units (VRU’s) to reduce serious violence.

With the pressure on for VRU’s to complete their VRU Annual Report for the Home Office by the 15th January, we are providing much needed support via our rapid diagnostic support package.  This involves one of our dedicated experts working with a VRU.  We are also able to provide individualised bespoke support, to ensure VRU’s achieve their desired outcomes.

Agencia has a strong and extensive track record of deploying multi-disciplinary teams with specific expertise in justice, policing and security and health and social care into different contexts and multi-agency environments.  This includes working across many Police forces, Local Authorities, and the full spectrum of NHS organisations, with our clients including NHS England, Public Health England, NHS Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups and over 600 primary care organisations through our Primary Care Direct service.

We have a dedicated specialist team who work across the Criminal justice sector.  Steve Pitts, one of our Justice, Policing and Security Directors (and former Chief Superintendent) is leading this work.

Some of our experts’ have ongoing involvement with Violence Reduction Units, with one such example being in the South of England.  Working with the Police, and a variety of different agencies, including unitary authorities/County Councils and Clinical Commissioning groups, a clear Strategic Needs Assessment has been developed, in parallel with securing additional resource and significant funds from the Home Office to apply across the pan region.

Since January 2020, the role of this work has been to manage the interface between the different VRU’s, in the region along with gaining a greater understanding of local crime related risks across the county.  As a result, the VRU’s now have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the levels and causes of violence in the county;
  • A county wide Violence Reduction Strategy;
  • Excellent direct engagement with community organisations and communities through The Violence Reduction Fund, which provided grants of up to £20,000.

Additionally, this work has helped shape the conditions that have now enabled the VRU’s to move towards primary prevention, (which is historically difficult to make the case for) and evidence outcomes from taking a public health approach.

Currently, our experts are engaged to help develop an outcomes framework that will set out clear evidence of reporting across the three VRU’s.  This has been developed by creating a Whole Systems approach to serious violence, informed by the Problem Profile and Needs Analysis, and guided by the Response Plan.  This has enabled the agencies (including the Police) to have a greater potential to identify risk clusters in people, families, communities, organisations, and places.

Importantly, it has also assisted in identifying the right partners to work together, and the right system leaders - with a shared vision, mission and objectives.  This has enabled the Police to have the ability to collaborate and co-produce services with communities and young people, and crucially, to develop a sustainable financial model, with a shared set of measures.

We can work with you to create:

  • An assessment of progress against the theory of change model; Home Office approved
  • An opportunity to consolidate, de-tangle, and increase efficiency and impact of previous partnership endeavours, by independently facilitating collaborative working and providing coordination of resource;
  • The opportunity to develop data, intelligence and insight in a stronger way than before, and take steps towards a shared understanding of the problem;
  • Stronger (and shared) evaluation processes;
  • An opportunity to focus on taking a whole system approach in a place / setting – developing resilient and trusted networks across previously siloed practitioners/communities;
  • Scale and pace of expansion of projects that have been in development for some time, or programmes that previously hit a natural limit (long waiting lists);
  • Consolidation of previously dispersed practice, experience and expertise, and opportunity to build an informed programme of activity;
  • Broader buy in and understanding of a Public Health approach amongst partners – start of a shared language;
  • Ability to focus on preventative work and breaking the generational cycle, drawing in practitioners from services that are typically forced to deal with crisis points rather than early intervention;
  • Greater reach and consolidation of efforts to establish trauma-informed workforces/communities;
  • Identifying, clarifying and agreeing regional priorities to respond to exploitation of children and young people (which in itself has triggered some for domestic abuse, sexual violence, modern slavery);
  • A growth in faith inspired approaches and multi-faith responses to community social issues;
  • VRP success measures of the partnership.
