It is estimated that 1 in 4 people in the UK experience mental health issues at some point in their life and the UK spends £22.50 billion on mental health (Kings Fund, 2008). The issues affecting Older People’s Mental Health are complex and varied, and yet there is much that we can do together in support of achieving improving outcomes, good quality care and living well in the community. The challenge for Commissioners and Providers is to achieve high quality services with reduced budgets in the context of rising public expectations. Added to this, is the challenge of engaging professionals who are working hard in services which may well be overstretched.
