This included the bridge where guests were shown how the Royal Navy use their leadership and management skills to co-ordinate a fully functioning shift system which can operate 24 hours a day for an indefinite amount of time. Next they were taken to the fo’c’stle (pointy end) and given a quick brief on the weapons systems before then being escorted to the aft (back end) to hear about the types of helicopters that Royal Naval warships carry and the operations that they are used for.
Visitors were also invited into various spaces inside the ship including a 24 man mess deck, the ship control centre (engine operations room) and the operations room, which is the focal point for a ship at war.
Commenting on the visit, Steve Jacobs said “I really enjoyed it. It was a rare opportunity to visit an operational warship. It gave us an insight into the similarities that a warship has in its day to day business, with that of the intricacies of a civilian business, especially handling of personnel and management, as well as job training.”
