Keeping older people in their own homes for as long as possible is the cornerstone of government policy. The Alzheimer’s Society has called on health and social care commissioners to think in the longer term and invest in proper dementia services and training to keep more people out of hospital and residential care homes, saving the NHS and local authorities considerable sums.
Agencia has been working with the Department of Health and the North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NEIEP) to train the 12 local authorities and PCTs in the North East. This involved developing a training guide that assists implementation of objective 6 of the National Dementia Strategy as community and personal support services are developed. Designed for frontline professional staff working with people with dementia, this online, interactive and innovative training guide introduces community and personal support services in a simple and user-friendly way.
