Agencia MD to address Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Annual Conference

“Good management practices are likely to promote better mental health, productivity and creativity at work compared to badly run organisations’ said Andrew, who used to work as a clinical psychologist before moving into consultancy.

David Ryan is the Royal College Policy Lead for general and community psychiatry.  In his part of the presentation he will outline how recent government policy has reinforced the priority on achieving good mental health in the workplace, and will point to some of the costs of not doing so.  It is currently estimated that 40% of all sickness absence from work in the UK has a mental health element, with an associated direct cost to employers of £8.4 billion.  If additional costs, resulting from those employees who are present at work, but underperforming due to mental health problems, are added in this figure becomes a staggering £15 billion.  In recent years the Health & Safety Executive has recognised the risks of stress in the workplace and has developed standards of good practice.

In the presentation Andrew will be sharing some of Agencia’s techniques of for engaging employers in designing and implementing standards of good management practice to promote mental health for their employees.  David is keen to see his colleagues in the Royal College rise to the challenge of working more closely with employers on this important agenda.
