redibly pleased to announce that out of 22 teams, our Active Recovery Team from North Lincolnshire, came third in this year’s Recovery Games, remaining in the top three after our first place triumph last year. The Active Recovery Team demonstrated great athleticism, determination and the ability to have a good laugh on the way to a famous result.
The Recovery Games is organised by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) and is held to celebrate individuals’ recovery from drug and alcohol misuse. Teams, made up of service users, workers, friends and family, are invited from across the region to take part in a day of fun events with a sporting theme.
Active Recovery works across North Lincolnshire in close liaison with a team of General Practitioners and other medical professionals to meet the needs of clients through the prescription of appropriate Opiate Substitution Therapy. Alison McVeigh of Active Recovery, who helped organise the team, said: “it was a great family event with participation from staff, members from Garners Pharmacy, family and friends all working together in securing another win for Active Recovery”.
We are also delighted to announce that North Lincolnshire’s first ever Recovery Fest was an overwhelming success. Recovery Fest, which took place in early September, was a partnership event located in Scunthorpe’s Central Park. The aim of the event was to challenge stigma and promote awareness of alcohol and substance recovery in the community and featured assistance from Active Recovery, Safer Neighbourhoods, CGL, OnGo and Empathy, amongst other local services. The event featured live music from local musicians, stalls from community based services and activities aimed at engaging both children and adults.
Helen Kirk, who was integral in the organisation of Recovery Fest, said of the event “The festival was well attended with service users, families, local media and members of the general public all coming together to enjoy a free event. Active Recovery would like to thank all those who helped us with the organisation both up to, and on the day of the event and we hope to see you all in 2017 for what we hope will become an annual celebration of recovery in the community.”
