Agencia is leading the introduction of a new Probation Service in the Republic of Macedonia, which will start functioning in November 2016. The project to introduce the service, which is part of a larger EU justice reform project, is being led by Agencia’s Andy Stelman.
A round table event recently took place in Skopje to explore how serving parole in the community can assist in reducing offending. The event was organized by the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors, and was attended by judges, prison governors and prosecutors.
In common with many countries, prisons in Macedonia suffer from overcrowding and there are currently relatively few alternative sanctions available.
