On Thursday 5th November, Agencia’s Active Recovery Service Team began our exciting new venture, the Detox Club!
Service users, volunteers and staff all met at the premises and began the renovation process, undertaking a variety of tasks and duties. Many participants undertook a cleaning role, scrubbing the entire venue including stairways, windows, and fires. It was a tremendous team effort by all involved with a wholly shared input, (one volunteer mended a door handle and even helped out with the plumbing!).
We returned the following day to continue with the work in progress, one service user donated 7 pots of paint which we used to decorate the walls of the premises. Additional to the painting, hard work was continued in different areas, with some hanging blinds above the windows to provide privacy and others progressing the Kitchen, installing appliances, cleaning surfaces and washing up. With the Kitchen functional, everyone took full advantage of the ability to provide refreshments and food and sat collectively to eat lunch together.
The whole project has been incredibly inclusive from its inception, with a range of visitors helping support the project, including appearances from members of The Forge, Conway House, OnGo, Crosby Childrens Centre, Safer Neighbourhoods, Dr Henalla and Adrian Garner.
The club is progressing rapidly, with donations and new support still being received. The work on the club is planned to resume Thursday 12th November from 1pm – 5pm, with hope to plan future activities and continue renovation, estimating an end goal of opening towards the end of November.
More Information
North Lincolnshire Council has appointed Agencia to provide an innovative and challenging service supporting individuals who have long-term issues with substance abuse. The service, called ‘Active Recovery’, works across the county in close liaison with a team of General Practitioners and other medical professionals to meet the needs of clients through the prescription of appropriate Opiate Substitution Therapy. This medical support is imbedded within a holistic and challenging package of care and psychosocial interventions to enable clients to achieve their personal ‘recovery’ goals and support them on the journey towards a drug free life.
