Change management business Agencia is ‘ahead of the game’ in finding new solutions to address today’s painkiller addiction crisis, and has created an animation video to tell their story for the benefit of others.
The independent, international family-owned business based in Hessle, East Yorkshire, offers bespoke service provision, consultancy and training in areas including health care, social care, justice, policing and security reform.
Painkiller dependence is a ‘silent epidemic’ and is on the rise. In the last 10 years, UK painkiller prescriptions have risen by 400%. The UK is now ranked sixth in the world for painkiller addiction, but there are few dedicated specialist services to help people with painkiller addiction.
Since April 2016, Agencia has sought to help plug this gap by designing and running ‘Rewire’ – its pilot opiate painkiller addiction service in North Lincolnshire. Inspired by its service users, they were keen to understand the problem, and find new solutions that will work in other places at home and internationally too.
Agencia’s Rewire programme has proved highly successful in reducing painkiller misuse by patients, changing lives and reducing costs for NHS services.
It is an evidence-based whole service system, which is proving to be an effective and sustainable approach to tackling a problem many previously considered intractable.
The project received recognition at a national level, winning the award for Best Presented Paper at the Royal College of General Practitioners Conference on Substance Misuse.
