Sisters, and international business leaders Helen Gibson, Managing Director of Agencia and Joy Allen, Agencia’s Head of HR and Corporate Services are inspiring girls to aim high on International Women’s Day.
Agencia has delivered more than 500 contracts in over 20 countries, including Bosnia, Ukraine, Kenya and Malaysia.
Helen Gibson, has been awarded an MBE for services to international trade in recognition of the company’s activities in some of the world’s trouble spots.
Helen said:
“Our international work is about trying to reduce conflict and increase stability and security – a lot of the problems in the world at the moment are trans-national such as terrorism, corruption, cybercrime, pandemics, migration. The world is actually a small place and the undermining of democracy, security and governance is what we are working to prevent.
We provide experts and we deliver world class training to justice, policing and security institutions in matters including criminal justice reform, domestic and sexual violence, serious and organised crime, specialist investigations, counter terrorism and community policing.”
Helen and Joy both attended Beverley High School for girls, and Helen still supports the school advising on enterprise. Working with Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership she helps students plan their futures and is assisting the school itself with developing its careers strategy.
Joy said:
“I had a great time at this school and I wouldn’t have had the career opportunities I’ve had, without the solid foundation provided to me by the school.
We are a local employer and it’s important that today’s girls recognise that all options are open to them, and that they are equipped with the confidence to aim high. As female leaders, we’re passionate about helping the next generation of students prepare for the world of work.”
Sarah Brownell, Assistant Head at the school, said:
“We have nearly 900 students and this is about helping them to find a passion which can guide them with career options. Helen was onboard straight away. It helps that she’s a former student and she has received a lot of positive feedback about her enthusiasm and how inspiring she is.”
