Agencia has been invited by the Substance Misuse Management in General Practice (SMMGP) and Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP) to provide advice on setting up services for people with dependency on prescription and over-the-counter medications. This will involve providing a webinar to discuss creating and running a service specifically designed to identify and support patients at risk of developing addiction to prescribed and over-the-counter painkillers. Agencia’s innovative work to reduce the risk of addiction to prescribed and over-the-counter opioids includes the development of a £1,000,000 Social Impact Bond (SIB), dedicated to supporting medical professionals and community organisations identify and support those most at risk from misuse of medication in Yorkshire and the Humber over the next 5 years. This is being supported by Life Chances funding from The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The SIB builds on Agencia’s ground-breaking approach in North Lincolnshire over the last 3 years, which attracted over £160,000 grant funding to help build a dedicated Opioid and Analgesic Dependence Centre as part of the redevelopment of the Detuyll Street Medical Centre. Agencia also won an award at the Royal College of General Practitioners Substance Misuse Conference in 2016 for their work in this important area.
