Agencia has been working in Kenya since 2017. Kenya is the hub for international development in Central Africa and beyond. UK Aid, UN, EU, US and other key donors maintain full time offices in Nairobi. The UK recognises Kenya as one of the fastest-growing economies in the region and has a reputation for pioneering innovative business ideas in financial services, telecoms, digital and renewable energy but the Country has been blighted by rampant street crime, high levels or corruption and terrorism.
As a key international and African partner, Kenya has received high level support from the UK. In August 2018 (then) Prime Minister Theresa May offered support to fight corruption, counter terrorism and assist in a police reform process, forming the UK and Kenya ‘Security Compact’ and ‘Security Dialogue’. In September 2018, President Kenyatta announced wide ranging and comprehensive reforms to the National Police Service focusing on a new command and delivery structure. A major change has included the rebranding of the police training colleges, introducing a policy of continuous professional development, shifting the focus of policing to a community-based service.
Agencia has been working directly with the Government of Kenya to counter corruption. In November 2018, Agencia also met several stakeholders in Nairobi, exploring the potential for healthcare support.
Most recently, Richard Wood and Dr Debra Willoughby were able to complete a further visit, meeting with a variety of interlocutors. This included those directly involved with the judicial and police reform process.

Lunch with INTERPOL
The team worked with the Usalama Forum who have been at the forefront of the police reform process. They met with the Director of Police Reforms, the Executive of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, key personnel at the Senior Leadership Training College, members of the International Justice Mission, the Dean of Security Studies at Kenyatta University, and a number of para-legals and Non-Government Organisations. Assistance came from a variety of sources including the Sudan representative of INTERPOL and the double Emmy award-winning journalist Jeff Koinange.

Meeting Jeff Koinange
The visit served to strengthen the solid lines of communications and relationships between Agencia, the Government of Kenya and civil society.
