On 20th December 2018, a joint Agencia-Axiom International team of David Wells, Ken Taylor, Nick Hawkins and Sean McHale met with the President of the Basic Court of Ferijaz, Kosovo. They also met staff from the court to identify how the project could strengthen the capacity of the Court to deal with organised crime. It is part of an assessment of the seven basic courts and prosecutor’s offices across Kosovo. The assessment started in late December and will conclude with a report and recommendations to the British Embassy in Pristina. The assessment forms part of a much wider project to strengthen the transparency, integrity and accountability in the justice system in Kosovo, being delivered over a two and a half year period jointly between Axiom International and Agencia.
Project Team Leader and Agencia’s Director of Justice, Policing and Security, Steve Pitts said;
“We are delighted to be working with our colleagues at Axiom International on this project, which is so vital to tackling corruption, organised crime and money laundering in Kosovo. Our project will help strengthen the role of the justice and rule of law institutions so that they are more effective at bringing to justice those who undermine Kosovo’s stability and economic growth. Organised crime also extends beyond international borders and poses a real threat to the United Kingdom and our expertise in this area is recognised globally. Our team will work alongside those from across Europe and the USA to help Kosovo build their own expertise and improve the confidence that Kosovan people have in their justice institutions”.
