We are delighted to announce that Agencia’s innovative work to reduce the risk of addiction to prescribed and over-the-counter opioids has been recognised by the award of £100,000 by the Life Chances Fund.
The Life Chances Fund supports local councils and other commissioners to develop social impact bonds and is structured around six key themes: drug and alcohol dependency, children’s services, early years, young people, older people’s services, and healthy lives.
This funding will contribute to a £1,000,000 Social Impact Bond, dedicated to supporting medical professionals and community organisations identify and support those most at risk from misuse of medication in Yorkshire and the Humber over the next 5 years.
The Minister for Sport and Civil Society, Tracey Crouch said:
“We are committed to building a fairer society that works for everyone and social impact bonds are already having a transformational impact on people’s lives. This next round of funding will help make a difference to many more lives, and I am looking forward to working alongside local councils to deliver projects and new services that help people reach their full potential.”
A Social Impact Bond is an innovative funding model, where a socially-minded investor provides up-front funding to an organisation such as a charity or social enterprise to deliver a service. Once this service achieves results, government will make payments, and the social investor will be reimbursed.
This award reflects the impact Agencia’s ground-breaking approach in North Lincolnshire over the last 3 years, which has already attracted over £160,000 grant funding to help build a dedicated Opioid and Analgesic Dependence Centre as part of the redevelopment of the Detuyll Street Medical Centre. Agencia also won an award at the Royal College of General Practitioners Substance Misuse Conference in 2016 for their work in this important area.
Agencia’s Managing Director, Helen Gibson said:
“To be selected for this award will enable us to continue to make a huge positive impact on the lives of those most vulnerable in our region. It once again demonstrates how Agencia can transform lives by tackling some of the most complex and difficult issues facing our local communities.”
